Exercise and Skincare - The Perfect Companions

Exercise and skincare

Continuing our theme of looking after your skin (and because its January and many of us are looking to reverse some of the excesses of Christmas), we thought we’d explore the impacts of combining regular exercise with nonsurgical skincare treatments as an effective way to improve the health and appearance of your skin.

Most of us know now that exercise has numerous benefits for the body and mind. Regular physical activity can improve cardiovascular health, increase strength and flexibility, and reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease. Exercise can also improve mental health and mood by reducing stress, anxiety, and depression. It can boost selfesteem, improve sleep, and increase cognitive function. In addition, regular exercise can help to maintain a healthy weight and reduce the risk of weightrelated health problems.

The benefits of exercise are vast and varied, making it an important part of a healthy lifestyle. So how do exercise and skincare complement each other?

Increased blood flow

Exercise increases blood flow to all parts of the body, including the skin. This increased circulation can help to nourish and oxygenate the skin, giving it a healthy, glowing appearance. Non-surgical skincare treatments such as microneedling and laser treatments can also stimulate blood flow to the skin, further enhancing the benefits.

Reduced Stress

Stress can have several negative effects on the skin, including causing the production of excess oil, leading to acne and other skin problems. Exercise has been shown to be an effective way to reduce stress, which can help to improve the appearance of the skin. Non-surgical skincare treatments such as chemical peels and microdermabrasion can also help to reduce stress, as the relaxation and pampering aspects of these treatments can help to relax the mind and body.

Improved Sleep

Exercise can help to improve sleep quality, which is important for overall health, including the health of the skin. When we sleep, our bodies repair and regenerate, including the skin. Getting enough quality sleep can help to improve the appearance of the skin and reduce the signs of aging. Non-surgical skincare treatments such as facials and massages can also help to improve sleep by promoting relaxation and reducing stress.

Detoxification

Exercise can help to flush toxins out of the body through sweating. This can help to improve the overall health and appearance of the skin by removing impurities and excess oil. Non-surgical skincare treatments such as chemical peels and hydrofacials can also help to detoxify the skin by removing dead skin cells and stimulating the production of new, healthy skin cells.

Increased collagen production

Collagen is a protein that helps to keep the skin firm and elastic. Exercise has been shown to increase collagen production, which can help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and improve the overall elasticity of the skin. Non-surgical skincare treatments such as microneedling, injectable skin boosters and radiofrequency treatments can also stimulate collagen production, further enhancing the benefits.

Combining regular exercise with non-surgical skincare treatments can be an effective way to improve the health and appearance of the skin. These two approaches can complement each other by increasing blood flow, reducing stress, improving sleep, detoxifying the skin, and stimulating collagen production.

It's important to note that while exercise can provide several benefits for the skin, it's also important to take care of your skin in other ways as well. This includes using a broad-spectrum sunscreen, cleansing, and moisturising regularly, and using other skin care products as needed.

It's important to consult with your aesthetic practitioner to determine the best treatment plan for your specific concerns and skin type.
